5 Ways to Help Relieve Nausea

Do you deal with nausea before your period? During your period? This is due to the lipid like compounds called prostaglandins that contract your uterus to shed your uterine lining. However, they can also get into your bloodstream and contribute to nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and headaches! Below are 5 ways to relieve nausea naturally through food and lifestyle!

  1. Eat every 1-2 hours. Something the majority of women don’t do because let’s be honest.. you don’t feel like eating when you are nauseated. However, not eating just makes your nausea worse.  Acid can build up in your stomach leading to more nausea. Aim to eat bland foods such as:

    1. Bananas

    2. Bone Broth

    3. Plain Baked Chicken

    4. Potatoes (sweet or white)

    5. Hard Boiled Eggs

    6. Ginger

    7. Coconut Water

    8. Unsweetened Applesauce

    9. Refined Carbohydrates like white bread, white rice & white crackers (low fiber)

  2. Avoid difficult to digest foods like beef, fried foods and cream based dishes. Think: High fat foods and foods that have a strong smell! This is the time to consider avoiding to cook in your home as this can also contribute to more nausea.

  3. Drink herbal teas like chamomile, peppermint and lavender.

  4. Avoid lying down after eating. Try to eat at least 2 hours before you go to bed and sit down after you eat.

  5. Chew on some ginger which has lots of research backed facts on how it helps with nausea and morning sickness.

“How can I prevent nausea for next time?”

  1. Seed Cycle. Seed cycling contains magnesium & B6 which helps decrease prostaglandins and relax your uterus.

  2. Eat balanced meals throughout the day. Going long periods of time without eating can mess with your blood sugar but also can mess with your stomach making it more acidic.
